Manners

Manners matter!

Children should say: thank you, your welcome, excuse me and please. A fast way to teach the basics...set an example by saying thank you and please to them when you ask them to do something. Instead of just pushing past them to get to the kid who has his foot stuck in the toilet...say excuse me. Be repetitive. Consistency is the key. Remind them often. Before you know it, they will be polite little people.

Yes sir and yes ma'am are a must. I was at the grocery store the other day and the teenage boy who helped me out with my bags replied with a yes ma'ma and I couldn't believe it. I immediately thought to myself..."what a polite young man." How sad that it is so rare to hear these days that it had shock value.

  1. Hi Jennifer!

Love the blog...don't see how you have time.

As far as the manners, I have found that if you (the parent) let the manners slip, everything else does too. Especially the attitude. It just sets the tone for how things will be.

I do think it's important to use our manners to them.

I feel like I am still constantly reminding mine to use them. I'm thinking that a 13 yo shouldn't have to be reminded. But, I'll keep reminding as long as I'm not hearing them..... :)

  2. Hi Jennifer,

I totally agree with you! We have always taught our children to be polite by modeling it then requiring they do the same. Before long it was a habit instilled in them. It always makes me sad when some child will practically knock me over to get into a store first. Unlike my children who will hold open the door for everyone coming in. Even the people way down the sidewalk who may be on their way in LOL. So sometimes we are at the door a long time in order to be polite to others LOL. I guess I rather have my children do that then run people over.

    Have a blessed day!
    Blessings,
    Brenda
